Zendaya is set to work with writer-director Alex Garland on a new Sci-fi film for A24. This comes after Zendaya’s multiple 2026 releases, including fellow A24 film The Drama, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the upcoming Dune: Part Three, releasing in December. It also follows Zendaya becoming the highest-grossing actress of 2027, after the massive box-office successes of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film will find Zendaya working with Alex Garland, best known for thrillers like Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, Civil War, and Warfare. The film also reunites Zendaya with the studio after working on both The Drama and the HBO series Euphoria.
The film is one of several upcoming projects for Zendaya. In addition to the previously mentioned Dune: Part Three, Zendaya will also be voicing Shrek’s daughter in the upcoming Shrek 5, due for release in June 2027. She is also set to play singer Ronnie Spector in another upcoming A24 film: the biopic Be My Baby from Barry Jenkins.
Garland’s new sci-fi film is currently untitled, and no plot details are known. Filming will begin sometime in 2027. The film is set to be Alex Garland’s next project, followed by his adaptation of the video game Elden Ring, set for release in 2028. Suffice it to say, it’ll be one busy year for both Garland and Zendaya.
