On U.S. Midterms Election Day, Nicki Minaj posted an AI-generated image of Chucky from Child’s Play wearing “Vote Red” pin on X. The post then received multiple clapback replies from Child’s Play creator Don Mancini.
The first post made it clear that Mancini didn’t approve of his character being used for overt MAGA propaganda. “IMPOSTER,” the first post reads, “CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION.”
Afterward, Mancini made two separate posts doubling down on his response. In the second post, Mancini reminds Nicki Minaj and the other X users reading the post that “Chucky has a trans kid. [Referring to the character Glenda, seen in Seed of Chucky (2004) and referred to in early episodes of the Chucky TV Series]. Mancini then writes in that second post that “Chucky Protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE” before pretending to quote the killer doll himself by writing “Chucky says ‘A BLUE WAVE is coming, as BLUE as my f***in’ eyes’.” Attached to the post is a photo of a real Chucky doll wearing an “I Voted” pin.
In the third post, Mancini refers to Nicki Minaj directly by name, criticizing her use of an AI-generated photo, writing, “Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way! #bluewave.”
Nicki Minaj previously used the character Chucky to push her political agenda in a January post, attaching a photo of the character and criticizing journalist Don Lemon for a story on Anti-ICE protests in Minnesota.
