In a recent interview with Official Pop Drop to promote the release of the A24 film Primetime, Robert Pattinson updated fans on the production delay for The Batman Part II. “Yeah, we’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out,” says Pattinson. The delay came as director Matt Reeves had to temporarily halt principal photography to deal with a personal family matter. Warner Bros announced the delay with this statement:
Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.
The film sat in production limbo for a couple of weeks, as it was unclear when production would resume. However, it was announced yesterday that Steven Soderbergh, the Oscar-winning director known for the Ocean’s Trilogy and dramas like Traffic and Erin Brokavich, will step in to finish principal photography. Warner Bros. announced the collaboration with the following statement:
As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2. Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.
While Soderbergh will step in to supervise the final days of principal photography, Reeves will remain active in all other parts of The Batman Part II’s production, including Post-production. Reeves made sure to make this clear in a recent post on X, where he stated:
Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.
Despite this development delay, the film is still slated to release in theaters on February 18, 2028.
