Zac Efron and Robert De Niro Take Spring Break by Storm in Trailer for ‘Dirty Grandpa’

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedy Dirty Grandpa, and you can pretty much guess from the film’s title what you are going to get. Robert De Niro (Joy) plays the titular grandpa- Dick Kelly, who convinces his button-downed grandson Jason (Zac Efron, Neighbors) to accompany him to retirement home in Florida immediately after his late wife’s funeral…and just in time for spring break in Daytona.  The oil-and-water pair embarks on a series of adventures and misadventures, most involving comely coeds and the usual spring break hijinks, frat parties and the like. All of this is much to the chagrin of Jason’s fiancée Meredith (Julianne Hough, Footloose) who just happens to be the daughter of Jason’s boss. Meredith is none too happy about having to finish the planning for their wedding – a week away – while Jason travels with his hard-partying grandfather, who is doing his best to loosen up his high-strung grandson.

The film also features Adam Pally and Dermot Mulroney (Insidious: Chapter 3), and turn by Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) as a sexy college girl who’s got her eyes on Dick, despite – or maybe because of – his age.

Dirty Grandpa is directed by Dan Mazer from a screenplay by first-time scripter John Phillips. It hits theaters on January 22. Watch the trailer, below, and see a De Niro you haven’t seen before.
