Actor and director Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York is set to get a release date in Hong Kong and 19 other countries, mostly located in Europe and South America. The film’s original production company and distributor, Amazon, put the film’s release on an indefinite pause due to the sexual abuse allegations by his daughter Dylan Farrow that have since become common knowledge after the start of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. Amazon was later sued by Allen for $68 million, who claimed the company had breached a contract that bound Allen and Amazon for four feature films.
Amazon later responded by saying that they had rightfully cut ties with Allen because of his comments about the #MeToo movement. As a result of this controversy, some the film’s main actors like Timothee Chalamet, Selena Gomez, Rebecca Hall, and Griffin Newman donated what money they made from to different charities including Time’s Up, RAINN, and the LGBT Center in New York, amongst others. The film, also starring Jude Law and Elle Fanning, is a romcom about a couple who, as they try to follow their dreams, meet new people via circumstance and end up falling in love with them.
A Rainy Day in New York was first released in Poland on July 26, 2019. The film is set to be released in Hong Kong on October 3, 2019, and will be screened across the rest of China at a later date.
