‘Westworld’ Actor, Jeffrey Wright, in Talks to Play Commissioner Gordon in ‘The Batman’

With every Batman reboot, there’s always a discussion on which recognizable supporting characters would be in the next film and who will play them. One of the most important characters in this franchise, of course, is police commissioner James Gordon. A new actor has been in talks to play alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, with Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright potentially cast as the famous Commissioner of Gotham City.

First appearing in issue #27 of Detective Comics, Gordon is one of the most popular supporting character from DC’s most well known superhero franchise. He has been played by a number of different actors across TV and Film, most notably portrayed Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and J.K. Simmons in Justice League. Wright is known for not just his television roles like Westworld, but a number of different films including popular franchises such as The Hunger Games and James Bond. His most recent work was in The Goldfinch, starring Ansel Elgort.

Although Commissioner Gordon is often portrayed as an older white male, Wright still seems like a perfect fit to play this character due to his history of strong supporting roles. In fact, his character in the recent James Bond films, Felix Leiter, was initially played by a white male for most Bond films until Wright was cast in 2006’s Casino Royale. Regardless, Wright would be a welcoming addition to Matt Reeves version of The Batman as the Caped Crusader’s renowned ally.

The Batman is set for release June 25th 2021.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
