Walt Disney Studios Makes a Splash At CinemaCon in Las Vegas

Anyone who’s anyone in the production of film is in Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon – an event that’s basically Christmas for movie fans, with a plethora of announcements, trailers, and stills to go around from all of the major studios. If we’re going to be highlighting anyone, it would need to be Disney and the studios within the larger corporation because they came with lots to offer in terms of news.

Two of Disney’s subsections in attendance, Marvel Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, both took to CinemaCon with their own gifts: new footage from Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Lightyear.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, and Xochitl Gomez, will be premiering May 6, and Lightyear, starring Chris Evans, will be landing in theaters June 17. You can view the latest trailers for both films at the bottom.

But truly, 20th Century Studios stole the show with the amount of variety and excitement they brought with their upcoming projects. For fans of the show Bob’s Burgers, the studio graciously screened the first six minutes of the upcoming The Bob’s Burgers Movie starring Zach Galifianakis, H. Jon Benjamin, Dan Mintz, and other fantastic voice talents. The Bob’s Burgers Movie premieres on May 27.

Next, director of American Hustle David O. Russell shared a clip of his next project, Amsterdam, a historical crime story and it might just have the most star-studded cast for a film this year. The movie stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek, Robert De Niro, and even Taylor Swift, who brings Grammys to the Oscar/Emmy studded cast.

Amsterdam stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington on set.

Director James Cameron came to CinemaCon with the trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water, the highly anticipated follow-up film to Avatar (2009), otherwise known as the highest grossing film of all time. The trailer can be viewed exclusively in theaters at showings of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The Avatar sequel will arrive in theaters on December 16 and to appease fans the original film is getting re-released in theaters on September 23.

Additionally, star of both Amsterdam and Avatar: The Way of Water Zoe Saldana will be receiving the CinemaCon Star of the Year award this Thursday evening.

All in all, Disney and its associates brought the heat to CinemaCon and it’s definitely safe to say they’re going to be one of the top competitors at the box office in the upcoming months.
