Legendary writer and director of films such as Lady Bird and Little Women, Greta Gerwig is back in the limelight with her newest project: Barbie. This Mattel and Warner Brothers collaboration film, starring Margot Robbie, began filming earlier in 2022 in London and has now released a sneak peek into the fruits of their labor.
The first look of the I, Tonya actress as the iconic doll features her flashing a million-dollar smile in her signature pink convertible. This is the only image released of the movie so far, but there’s more star power to this film than just Robbie. Her supporting cast includes Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, and more to make up the rest of the gang.
As we all anticipate the release of this upcoming film, people are unsure of what to expect. There’s the name Barbie which gives viewers one idea, and then the name Greta Gerwig, which is an entirely different meaning. Gerwig is known for her feminist takes and adult themes, and with the armada of serious actors along with comedians she’s cast, one can only imagine what sort of twist she’ll be bringing to Malibu.
Barbie will be arriving in theaters on July 21, 2023.
