Vera Farmiga, the Oscar-nominated actress known for her roles in Up in the Air, The Conjuring series and The Departed, is set to produce and star in Bryce McGuire’s feature directorial debut, Bad Bloom. The horror fairytale is set to start production sometime in the second half of 2021.
The film centers around a family living in isolation on a remote island tasked with keeping an unknown creature at bay. Their reality begins to unravel when one of the children learns the monster they feared is not what they thought it was.
Farmiga earned her Oscar nomination for her performance in Up in the Air, which she starred in with George Clooney and Anna Kendrick. She’s also set to appear in Ant Timpson’s upcoming mystery thriller, The Salamander Lives Twice, as well as the next installment in The Conjuring series, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do it.
McGuire’s previous work consists of short horror films like The Whistler, Night Swim and Soon You Will be Gone and Possibly Eaten. Farmiga worked with McGuire while developing Bron Studios surrealist comedy series, Tabloid Dreams.
Jon Rubinstein and Galt Niederhoffer will produce the upcoming film under the Authentic Management Banner alongside Ruminant Films’ Renn Hawkey.
