Alan S. Kim, breakout child star of the award season favorite, Minari, is set to star alongside Eighth Grade‘s Elsie Fisher in John J. Budion’s upcoming dark comedy, Latchkey Kids. The film, which is written by Meaghan Cleary and produced by Related Pictures Group, is set to begin production this June.
Latchkey Kids will follow Kim as Shae, a bright nine-year-old boy who befriends an eccentric teenage girl, played by Fisher. All the while, local law enforcement is led to believe that Shae may be offing his babysitters.
Kim’s performance in Lee Isaac Chung’s family drama Minari is reminiscent of Fisher’s rise to fame from her breakout role in Bo Burnham’s coming-of-age comedy, Eighth Grade. Both films premiered at Sundance Film Festival and had the young actors in leading roles. They also quickly became favorites at their respective award seasons, with Fisher earning Golden Globe nomination.
Latchkey Kids will be Budion’s second feature film. His first film, Rockaway, earned positive scores from critics and audiences back in 2017. It also starred a cast led by child actors.
It’s unknown exactly when we’ll see the upcoming dark comedy release, but we can hopefully expect a fun and well-acted feature.
