Vanessa Kirby Replaces Jodie Comer for Ridley Scott’s Napoleon Drama ‘Kitbag’

Jodie Comer earned an Oscar nomination as Marguerite de Carrouges, whose awakening leads to a strong, defiant woman who proves Jacques le Gris is guilty in Ridley Scott’s Last Dual. According to Deadline, Jodie Comer decided to exit Scott’s newest projected Kitbag on Tuesday.

Comer would’ve played alongside academy award winner Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon’s true love Josephine. The movie is set to start filming this spring. Soon after Comer’s departure, it’s been announced that Vanessa Kirby will be taking the role of Napoleon’s love interest. Kirby, best known as White Widow in Mission Impossible franchises.

IndieWire had this to Tweet, “Ridley Scott has tapped Vanessa Kirby to replace Jodie Comer on his upcoming epic Kitbag. She’ll play Empress Josephine opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Napoleon Bonaparte. Comer dropped out earlier on Tuesday over Covid and scheduling issues.”

Kirby has also earned nominations as Martha, a woman struggling in Boston after the loss of a child in the film Pieces of a Woman. Pieces of a Woman is Kirby’s first-ever Oscar nomination, and she’ll be competing against Comer for best actress.

Kirby will next be seen next in Adam Leon’s upcoming film Italian Studies, a drama in which she is also an executive producer. The film is slated for release in theaters and on-demand on January 14.

Kitbag is projected for a late 2022 release or an earlier release in 2023.
