Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards Names ‘Anatomy Of A Fall’ Best Picture

Justine Triet’s mystery thriller Anatomy of Fall has been named the Best Picture of the year by the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards, beating out both Cristopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest. Triet’s courtroom drama also gave star Sandra Hüller the win for Best Female Actor.

Though Nolan’s film did not win Best Picture, Oppenheimer did receive two wins: one for Nolan as Best Director and another for Robert Downey Jr. as Best Supporting Actor.

Another film which received multiple honors at the VFCC Awards was Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers, which won Best Male Actor for Paul Giamatti and Best Supporting Female Actor for Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

Winning the award for the Best International Film in Non-English was Glazer’s drama on the Holocaust, The Zone of Interest. Nisha Pahuja’s To Kill a Tiger received the award for the Best Documentary of the Year. Furthermore, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach won the award for Best Screenplay for Barbie.

A few prominent films went away with empty hands at the VFCC Awards although they each received two nominations. These films are: Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi’s Nyad, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.
