Magnolia Pictures is doing something very unusual to promote their upcoming comedy movie Buffaloed. According to Variety, distribution company Magnolia Pictures is collaborating with RIP Medical Debt, non-profit organization that works to help relieve people struggling with medical debt. MovieWeb reports that Buffaloed is going to eliminate at least $1.5 million in medical debt.
Buffaloed was directed by Tanya Wexler, best know for directing Hysteria, and based on a screenplay written by Brian Sacca. The movie stars Jai Courtney, Jermaine Fowler, Judy Greer, and actress Zoey Deutch, who recently appeared in Zombieland: Double Tap as the ditzy Madison. In Buffaloed, Deutch plays a hustler named Peggy who lives in Buffalo New York, America’s debt collecting capital. Deciding that her hustler career won’t be enough to cover her own debt and tuition, Peggy decides to pursue a new path as a debt collector. However, she soon finds herself clashing and being buffaloed by some of Buffalo’s most powerful people.
Buffaloed has already seen a few screening premiers, including a special screening at Buffalo International Film Festival, but it will be getting an official wide release this coming Valentine’s Day.
