There’s been plenty of talk about what David Fincher has been planning since 2014’s Gone Girl. He was going to be the helmer of two big HBO shows before they eventually fell through, as well as remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train. But as of this writing, his only project is a series called Mindhunter, set for release in 2017. But after Gone Girl‘s huge success during it theatrical run, there were rumors floating around about a potential sequel.
Author and screenwriter of the film Gillian Flynn has expressed strong interest in doing Gone Girl 2 “if everyone is game to get the gang together.” She’s certainly a very talented writer, having written two other bestselling novels over the past few years. But she’s not the only one who would like to see a sequel. Tyler Perry, who played the astute lawyer in the film, recently spoke to Cinema Blend and was asked about the potential it could have.
I haven’t heard those rumors. But that would be really exciting, because I feel like there’s more to that story. And Gillian, she’s brilliant, and would write something awesome.
So it’s clear that most of the team would be ready to tackle a sequel if 20th Century Fox gave it the green light. Gone Girl was not only critical success but did very well at the box office, giving the studio yet another reason to move ahead with it. But considering Ben Affleck‘s busy schedule in the DC Cinematic Universe, and Fincher directing the Mindhunter series, it could be a long time before Gone Girl 2 could get going.
