As stated by Variety, Laura Dern (Jurassic Park, Big Little Lies) will be honoring George Clooney (Ocean’s Eleven, Fantastic Mr. Fox) at the Venice Film Festival. Clooney is set to be honored with a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement on Wednesday, September 2nd.
Clooney is being celebrated for a variety of hats he wears in the industry— director, actor producer, as well as being “a commitment to social and humanitarian causes, making him a figure of absolute prominence in the universe of show business today,” as stated in a Biennale statement.
Clooney has been nominated in six different Oscar categories, including: Best Leading Actor, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. This makes him one of the three people who have been nominated for different Oscar categories, joining Walt Disney (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp) and Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Love in the Time of Hysteria).
Dern earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story, released in 2019 and directed by Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, The Squid and the Whale). Clooney and Dern worked alongside each other in Baumbach’s film Jay Kelly, which premiered last year at Venice. Dern also honored David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Dune) for the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Other films Dern attended in the Venice Film Festival were Inland Empire by Lynch, October Sky by Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), Dr. T & The Women by Robert Altman (That Cold Day in the Park, Fool for Love), Haunted Summer by Ivan Passer (Loves of a Blonde, The Wishing Tree) and The Son by Florian Zeller (Do Not Disturb, The Other Woman).
The 2026 Venice Film Festival begins on September 2nd and runs through the 12th.
