Indie wunderkind Tye Sheridan has booked his latest project, a thriller titled Detour, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Written and to be directed by Christopher Smith (Black Death), the story will follow young law student Harper who, while grieving for his dying mother, struggles with the decision to kill his unfaithful step-father.
Eighteen-year-old Sheridan is no stranger to the dark and mature subject matter of this film. Two of his breakout roles, in Mud, opposite Matthew McConaughey, and Joe, alongside Nicholas Cage, saw his young character thrust into very adult situations.
These roles, along with his first film, Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life, have catapulted his career thus far deep into the indie genre. He will be appearing in three films this year at Sundance – the long-awaited The Stanford Prison Experiment, Last Days in the Desert with Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge) portraying Jesus, as well as Entertainment alongside Michael Cera (Juno) and John C. Reilly (Talladega Nights).
Also ahead for the busy Sheridan is the second adaptation of a Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) novel, Dark Places, the horror-comedy Scouts vs. Zombies, and the war drama Yellow Birds with Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game).
