Euphoria creator Sam Levinson re-teams with Zendaya in their new Netflix Drama Malcolm and Marie. Zendaya will star alongside John David Washington (Tenet) in the film, which will follow the two’s relationship. The film made headlines in 2020 by being one of the first films to shoot safely during the pandemic when most other productions were still on hold.
The film tells the story of Malcolm, a film director and his girlfriend Marie. In the trailer, it shows how the two’s relationship appears to be tested when they return home from the world premiere of his new film and await the reviews. This first footage shows a glimpse into the intimate and intense ride the romantic film will be. It doesn’t appear to be an uplifting love story, but a realistic story of love and tribulation in relationships, and how sometimes love isn’t enough.
It will be in black and white, and Zendaya will be narrating the script. Malcolm & Marie is the last film to be added to Netflix’s Oscar slate for the 2020-2021 awards season. Zendaya will be nominated for Best Actress, and she will be in competition from fellow Netflix actresses such as Vanessa Kirby in Pieces of a Woman and Viola Davis in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Malcom & Marie will begin streaming on Netflix on February 5th, 2021.
