Trailer for Princess Diana Biopic ‘Spencer’ Starring Kristen Stewart Released

As the children’s choir rendition of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’ blasts throughs the speakers of your laptop, phone or tv screen, you’re instantly transported into the ultimately tragic life of the late Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, affectionately known as Princess Diana. Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín gained global recognition for directing the 2016 biopic Jackie, which won Natalie Portman her second Oscar for playing Jackie Kennedy.

He’s now set to release his follow-up titled Spencer, a biopic centered around Princess Diana and her decision to leave her marriage to Prince Charles, the heir apparent to the British throne to this day. It stars Kristen Stewart in the titular role, who even in the small glimpses see of her in the minute-long trailer, nails some of Diana’s mannerisms, particularly her sad glance. Stewart reportedly studied the fourth season of The Crown in preparation for the role.

We see Oscar-winning actress Sally Hawkins (Elisa in Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water) and Jack Farthing as Prince Charles in the trailer as well. Claire Mathon’s cinematography (known for French sensation Portrait of a Lady on Fire) is a stand-out as well, as it’s one of the gorgeous-looking trailers you’ll see, as Sandringham estate looks devastatingly beautiful.

With Steven Knight’s screenplay (creator of Peaky Blinders) and Jonny Greenwood’s score (band member of Radiohead and longtime Paul Thomas Anderson collaborator), it appears that the film will do justice to its excellent teaser trailer. Spencer hits theaters on November 5th.
