Trailer for ‘Adult Beginners’ Starring Nick Kroll

Just ahead of its world premiere this Sunday at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, the trailer has been released for indie dramedy Adult Beginners. Starring Nick Kroll (TV’s The League), Rose Byrne (Neighbors), and Bobby Cannavale (Blue Jasmine), the film marks the directorial debut of producer Ross Katz.

Though Katz’s name may not be instantly recognizable, you’re no doubt familiar with some of the movies that he has produced, which include In the Bedroom (2001) and Lost in Translation (2003) – both of which earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture. While the basic premise and many of the story beats echo similar indie dramedies from the last few years – chief among them last year’s The Skeleton Twins – the presence of Katz suggests this may be something slightly more elevated.

This film also represents an opportunity for Kroll, as it is his first starring performance in a feature film, after several bit parts in larger movies such as Date Night (2010) and Get Him to the Greek (2010). Kroll, who started as a stand-up comedian – has seen his star steadily rise in the last couple years due to the popularity of two television shows he stars in, FX’s The League, and Comedy Central’s Kroll Show. The latter of those just ended its series run and was responsible for spawning a number of memorable characters played by Kroll, many of which one could imagine being the basis for a standalone feature some time in the future.

In addition to Kroll, Byrne, and Cannavale, Adult Beginners is chock-full of familiar comedic faces, including Joel McHale (Ted, TV’s Community), Jane Krakowski (TV’s 30 Rock), Bobby Moynihan (TV’s SNL), Mike Birbiglia (Sleepwalk With Me), and Josh Charles (TV’s The Good Wife, the upcoming I Smile Back).

Adult Beginners will see a limited theatrical release on April 24th.
