Trailer Breakdown – MODOK Arrives In New ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Trailer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s hype machine is at it again, with the new trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania dropping. The trailer provides a better look at the film’s overall story and introduces new elements and characters (MODOK!!!) not seen in the previous trailer.

In the newest trailer, we see Paul Rudd’s Scot Lang conversing more with Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. The latter entices Lang into working for him with the promise of regaining lost time with his daughter Cassandra. Lang had been incarcerated for four years before the beginning of the original Ant-Man film and was also trapped in the Quantum Realm during the gap between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The trailer also hints that Cassandra may have been involved in criminal activity due to her presence in jail. However, Marvel and Disney are notorious for using their trailers for misdirection. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Cassandra followed in her dad’s footsteps.

With Lang accepting Kang’s call to adventure to work for him, we see Lang split into multiple versions of himself, possibly indicating that Kang is breaking the timeline to create copies of Lang. The trailer is littered with scenes of hundreds of copies of Lang, with a giant version similarly splitting into strands to how Mr. Fantastic did in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The level of Kang’s sophistication and organization is also made apparent throughout the trailer, where his base of operations and his mastery of technology are fully displayed. Kang is due to return in Loki season 2, along with a significant appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will release on May 2, 2025. Unfortunately, there are seven films between the newest Ant-Man film and Kang’s Dynasty, so many aspects of Kang’s power and character are in flux.

MODOK also makes his triumphant entrance into the MCU in terrifying fashion. MODOK appears to have mostly adhered to his comic book-accurate appearance, with his giant head and small limbs carried by a hover chair. MODOK, which stands for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, was recently given the spotlight in his show on Hulu by the makers of Robot Chicken. Sadly, the series was not picked up for a second season.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases February 7, 2023.
