Tom Holland has solidified himself as Sony’s poster boy and has yet again brought in big bucks for the studio. Following up on the recent colossal success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony’s Uncharted has continued to bring in an estimated $23.3 million in its second weekend for an overall total of $83.4 million in the domestic box office since its release on the 18th.
Uncharted is based on the acclaimed PlayStation video game series of the same name which follows Nathan Drake (Holland) and Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) on a globe-trotting adventure to find the lost fortune of Ferdinand Magellan. Young males, the main fans of the game series, are to thank for the large unexpected success of the film.
United Artists’ Dog, starring Channing Tatum, came in with $10.1 million for the weekend adding to a $30.9 ten-day domestic total. The film is a heartwarming story that follows Tatum’s character Jackson Briggs as he aims to train a traumatized Army dog as they make the journey to attend the dog’s owner’s funeral. The Foo Fighters’ Studio 666 on the other hand, scraped by with No. 8 in its debut, grossing an estimated 1.6 million. Spider-Man: No Way Home, Death on the Nile, and Jackass: Forever make up for the remaining top five films alongside Uncharted and Dog.
