‘Thunderbolts’ David Harbour Excited To See Red Guardian’s Potential

In anticipation of the upcoming Thunderbolts film, directed by Jake Schreier, David Harbour completed brief interview with The Playlist sharing his hopes for his character – Red Guardian. The upcoming film is expected to bring together multiple characters related to Captain America, such as Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barns and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Boleva, as they potentially combat Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt” Ross.

Harbour is anticipating that not only will his character’s reunion with Yelena Boleva be “great,” but that he wants Red Guardian to meet Wyatt Russell’s character, John Walker, from the Disney+ Falcon and Winter Soldier series. In the series, Walker was the man initially set to become the new Captain America following the death of Steve Rodgers. Regarding this, Habour tells The Playlist:

And I think, just the fact of a real dark Captain America, like, what that means in terms of his relationship with Red Guardian and what that spark will be like – I think Wyatt’s terrific. I think that character is terrific – this dark, patriotic character. You know, Red Guardian is just a foil to Captain America. He’s obsessed with Captain America. And this guy, although [Anthony] Mackie is the real Captain America, [Wyatt] is a version of that patriotic thing that’s darker.

With all the unseen potential of Red Guardian, fans and Harbour cannot wait to see how the super-soldier develops regarding character and fighting skills.
