In the first 2 days at the box office for the newest Marvel movie, the money is pouring in as tentpole fever seemingly dominates this summer’s cineplexes, earning $48.6 million internationally for Thursday previews. With America’s ceterus paribus style of COVID restrictions, it seems to be that things are back to normal at your local cinema. The film has rolled out across almost 50 different nations, and is Number 1 in almost all of them.

The fourth sequel in the Thor franchise is expected to rake in between $145-155 million domestically. Some projections even wield a whopping $170 million. An additional $150 million is projected for its global debut bring the total to a $300 million global opening.

This comes at a critical time for the House of Mouse, with Lightyear failing to launch, earning a measly $51 million its opening weekend. On top of that, Top Gun: MaverickMinions: The Rise of Gru, and Jurassic World: Dominion proved to be tough competitors in the summer blockbuster season..

As for the total for the weekend so far, the running global tally through yesterday is $77.6M. The film is also on track with the last Marvel fair, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has an $185M opening domestic weekend.

The overall box office has generated $3.9 billion to date in 2022, which is up 246% from the same point in 2021 but down 32.4% from 2019.
