This will be the first year that the Golden Globes will not be televised or live-streamed. Deadline held an exclusive interview with a HFPA spokesperson. According to the spokesperson over on Deadline. “This year’s event is going to be a private event and will not be livestreamed.”
The Golden Globes first started in 1944, and the award ceremony has gone on for the last 79 years. NBC has been hosting the Golden Globes since 1996, but this year NBC will not be hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
CBS NEWS covered an interview with NBC on HEPA. “We continue to believe that HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” NBC said in a statement at the time. “However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do right.” NBC gave an announcement back in May of 2021 that they planned to cancel the Golden Globes because of controversy with Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
NBC hasn’t given any further knowledge if they plan to host the Golden Globes in the near future. This year’s Golden Globes will be a nonconventional event without the audience or the host.
The spokesperson from HFPA that spoke with Deadline said in their interview. “We will be providing real-time updates on winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media.”
