Terry Gilliam’s new science-fiction film The Zero Theorem will arrive in American theaters in late summer 2014. Amplify will distribute the film’s theatrical release and Well Go USA Entertainment have the distribution rights for DVD and Blu-Ray. The Zero Theorem was written by Pat Rushin, produced by Nicolas Chartier and Dean Zanuck of Voltage Pictures, and stars Christoph Waltz and Matt Damon.
Waltz plays Qohen Leth, a man assigned with discovering the meaning of life. The trailer hints at a wild journey full of eccentric characters Leth encounters along the way. Gilliam describes The Zero Theorem as, “a very unique film that I’m especially proud of, so it is a relief to be distributed by a company that is not afraid to push the boundaries.” The film is intended as the conclusion of an informal trilogy of dystopian science-fiction films that includes Gilliam’s previous works, Brazil and 12 Monkeys. Gilliam intended for The Zero Theorem to explore what he calls the breakdown of “real relationships” in the age of the internet and social media.
The Zero Theorem premiered last year at the Venice International Film Festival to a mixed reaction and will release in the UK on March 14. An exact US release date has yet to be determined.
