‘The Sheep Detectives’ Climbs To Number One Globally On Amazon Prime Video

Hugh Jackman in Amazon's 'The Sheep Detectives' (2026).

The hybrid live-action and animated comedy-mystery The Sheep Detectives has secured the number one spot on Amazon Prime Video’s global movie charts, following its recent digital streaming debut. According to data provided by tracking platform FlixPatrol, the film reached the top position within 24 hours of its availability on the service.

Directed by Kyle Balda in his live-action directorial debut and written by Emmy Award winner Craig Mazin, the film serves as a feature adaptation of Leonie Swann’s 2005 internationally bestselling novel, Three Bags Full. The narrative centers on a devoted shepherd named George Hardy, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, who reads murder mystery novels to his flock every evening. When Hardy is discovered dead under mysterious circumstances, the local police force attributes the passing to a heart attack. Suspecting foul play, the flock takes it upon themselves to conduct an independent investigation to find the culprit.

The project features a large ensemble of live-action performers and voice talent. Jackman is joined onscreen by Nicholas Braun as a local police officer, Emma Thompson as an attorney, and Molly Gordon as George’s estranged daughter. The animated sheep, brought to life through visual effects by Framestore, are voiced by a cast led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the primary investigator sheep, Lily. The vocal lineup additionally includes Bryan Cranston as Sebastian, Regina Hall as Cloud, Chris O’Dowd as Mopple, and Patrick Stewart as Sir Richfield. Distributed theatrically by Amazon MGM Studios domestically and Sony Pictures Releasing International, The Sheep Detectives generated over $128 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of $75 million following its premiere in May 2026.

The film’s immediate streaming performance caps off its commercial run as it transitions from a theatrical release to home entertainment platforms.
