The Odyssey has officially become director Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing film. To date, the film has made $1.04 billion worldwide, the most money any of Nolan’s films has ever made during his early 30-year career. It is more than The Dark Knight Rises’s $1.085 billion worldwide total and The Dark Knight‘s $1.005 billion, which were previously the two highest-grossing films within Nolan’s filmography.
IMAX tickets currently account for over $289.3 million of the film’s current box office, also making it the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time, dethroning Avatar (2009), which made $270M in IMAX tickets. This feat can be attributed to the fact that the film is the first film ever to be filmed entirely in IMAX 70mm film, which made the standard IMAX and IMAX 70mm screenings the most in-demand versions of the film. So in-demand, in fact, that IMAX 70mm releases in several theater locations were sold out months in advance, and had to be extended to September.
In addition, the film’s box office success makes it one of 2026’s highest-grossing releases. Other high-grossing 2026 releases include The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael, Toy Story 5, and the recently released Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Audiences can still seek The Odyssey in theaters, as the film is still playing.
