Best-selling nonfiction book The Lost City of Z finally received its big screen adaptation from director James Gray (The Immigrant, Two Lovers), and will receive its premiere at the 54th New York Film Festival on closing night. This year’s NYFF is already making headlines since announcing that Ava DuVernay’s The 13th would open the festival.
The true story of The Lost City of Z follows Lieutenant Colonel Percy Fawcett, a former British soldier that tries to make his name in the world by exploring the deep rainforests of the Amazon. Gray has rounded up a terrific cast, including high-rising star Charlie Hunnam, Sienna Miller, Robert Pattinson and Spider-Man‘s own Tom Holland. It is also notably produced by Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment.
“It’s truly a dream come true for me to have The Lost City of Z selected for the closing night of the New York Film Festival,” said Gray. “I couldn’t be more honored that the film’s world premiere will be in my hometown, a city I still love above all others.” Gray’s last film, The Immigrant, also screened at the 51st NYFF.
The Lost City of Z will debut on Oct. 15, and tickets for the 54th NYFF will go on sale on Sept. 11.
