Gary Oldman has given his two cents on who he thinks should and will play the next James Bond, a highly sought-after role for the next upcoming English actors. Well-known faces such as Callum Turner, Harrison Dickinson, Tom Francis, and Scott Rose-Marsh are all in talks for the successor role, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet, or so they say. In an interview with Canada’s Global, Oldman stated that he believed they found the next Bond, his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden, explaining,
It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.
Oldman’s comment left fans unsure whether to take it as confirmation that Lowden had been cast or as a more general statement about where Amazon MGM was in the audition process. But during a more recent interview at TIFF with Josh Horowitz, Oldman clarified his previous statement, saying,
There’s six people on a shortlist. I heard a rumor that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative. So, I do not know [who has got the part], but I’m hoping it’s Jack.
While this neither confirms nor denies the rumor that Lowden could be the next Bond, Oldman did seem to reveal that Amazon MGM has an actor in mind to portray the iconic, elegant Englishman secret agent. The film, which is set to be a reboot rather than a continuation of Craig’s Bond, will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman.
