‘The Interview’ Expanding to Cable, Satellite, and More Digital Providers

Starting today, Columbia Pictures’ The Interview will be available to rent through cable and satellite on-demand services. The comedy that’s reportedly the impetus for the hack on Sony Pictures – which is the parent company of Columbia – is now available through Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, Charter Communications, Cablevision, AT&T U-verse TV, Verizon Fios, DirecTV, and Walmart’s digital service VUDU. The film will be available for rental starting at $5.99.

The film was originally pulled from theaters right before its Christmas Day release and was later put in select theaters as well as digital distribution through Google Play, YouTube, and Xbox Live. The film took over the top spot on Google Play shortly after release.

Since The Interview‘s success on digital distribution has resulted in more studios taking notice. Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, is getting digital release to coincide with a limited theatrical release. The upcoming action movie Everly will be getting similar type of release.
