The Full ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ Trailer Makes a Landing

After yesterday’s high-flying preview of Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation – the franchise’s fifth installment – the full theatrical trailer has now dropped online. The new trailer introduces Alec Baldwin (Still Alice) as a government official out to dissolve the IMF and reign in Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, who is on a mission to take down the Syndicate – an “anti-IMF” organization specially trained to counterattack Hunt and his cohorts.

To fight the opposition, Hunt has the help of Simon Pegg’s (Hot Fuzz) Benji Dunn, Jeremy Renner’s (The Hurt Locker) William Brandt, and Rebecca Ferguson’s (Hercules) as-of-yet unnamed mystery ally.

Looking beyond the impressive new stunts, the trailer grabs audiences by blending the old with the new. The footage utilizes the current movie trailer trend of slowing down and intensifying a popular song – in this case, The Fugees’ Ready or Not – in order to focus in on the action, and then hits audiences with the classic Mission: Impossible spy theme song to ground the story in tradition. If the full feature-length film can pull off this delicate balance, director Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) and Paramount will most likely have a success on their hands.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation hits theaters this summer, July 31.
