Lin-Manuel Miranda has confirmed the cast of his upcoming feature film adaptation of Off-Broadway play, Octet. Early Tuesday, Miranda posted a photo via Instagram of the rehearsal sign-in sheet, which included the signatures of Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Philipa Soo, Gaten Matarazzo, Jonathan Groff, Tramell Tillmell, and Paul-Jordan Jansen. The photo also confirms that rehearsals on the project have begun.
The Dave Malloy musical originally premiered in 2019. The play is set in a church basement where an eight person support group for those struggling with internet addiction meet. Miranda is no stranger to the stage or a music adaptation after creating the Broadway hit, Hamilton, and directing the academy award winning adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s musical, tick, tick…Boom!, in 2021.
The cast also have their share of experience with stage musicals. Most recently, Zegler won an Olivier for her role in Evita in the West End and Groff just completed his Broadway run of Just in Time. Ralph originated the role of Deena in Dreamgirls on Broadway and Tillman and Matarazzo both began their careers performing in Broadway productions.
