The latest horror anthology film, Tales of Halloween arrives just in time for the holiday it’s named for is probably what we’ll be saying next year. Set for release around Halloween 2015, Tales will feature ten Halloween-themed shorts by elven different directors – two are collaborating on one segment – all with experience in the horror genre.
Axelle Carolyn – who also concieved the project – has acted in a number of horror features, and made her directorial debut last year with Soulmate. Her husband, Neil Marshall made the 2005 critical hit, The Descent. Dave Parker channeled his love of slashers and film in general into 2009’s slightly-meta The Hills Run Red. 2009 also gave us a remake of the cult horror flick, Night of the Demons, directed by Adam Gierasch. Mike Mendez created a satire of giant-insect flicks (yes, that is a subgenre) in 2013 with Big Ass Spider! We’re going back again to 2009 for Paul Solet’s baby-scare film, Grace. John Skipp, writer on the fifth entry of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise is collaborating with Abominable director, Ryan Schifrin. Speaking of Nightmare on Elm Street, Andrew Kasch – who collaborated with Skipp on the short, Stay at Home Dad – directed the 2010 documentary on the series, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.
Tales of Halloween will join a recent trend of horror anthologies that includes the V/H/S and ABC’s of Death series. However, given its theme, the film may have more in common with Michael Doughtrey’s 2007 cult-hit, Trick ‘r Treat – another collection of Halloween-themed shorts, though Doughtrey directed all of them himself.
