STX acquires Harrison Ford & Ed Helms Comedy ‘Adventures of Burt Squire’

Harrison Ford and Ed Helms are attached to star in STX’s new seafaring comedy The Miserable Adventures of Burt Squire Aboard the Horn High Yo.

Inspired by a true story, the film centers around a family man during a midlife crisis who embarks on what he hopes will be a dream sailing vacation. Instead, he ends up shipwrecked in the Atlantic Ocean with a charming but unhinged sea captain. The screenplay was written by Ben Bolea, and was placed on the 2016 script Blacklist, an annual list of the most-liked screenplays that have yet to be produced.

“We love this story and are looking forward to working with … this incredible cast,” said Adam Fogelson, Chairmen of STXfilms Motion Picture Group. “There’s no one better than Ed Helms to play an everyday guy who gets saddled with every comedic misfortune life could throw his way, and Harrison is going to create yet another memorable and iconic character as an unhinged sea captain. Instead of a road-trip comedy, we can’t wait to see these unlikely buddies in this seafaring comedy.”

Although Ford isn’t known for his comedic performances, he’s not a complete stranger to the genre. In 2013 he had a cameo in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. In 2010 he starred in the romantic comedy Morning Glory alongside Rachel McAdams and Diane Keaton, and in 1998 he starred in the adventure comedy Six Days, Seven Nights.

Helms has quite a bit of experience when it comes to the comedic genre. He’s known for his roles in The Hangover films and The Office. More recently, Helms starred in the 2018 Comedy Tag with Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Rashida Jones, Isla Fisher, and Annabelle Wallis
