Following a breakout year, rising star Sterling K. Brown is taking his newfound clout to a familiar place – Marvel Studios. Marvel took to Twitter earlier today to announce formally that Brown – the Emmy-winning rising star of The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story – is the latest addition to Marvel’s forthcoming screen adaptation of Black Panther.
Brown will portray N’Jobu, a new character described a someone with deep, long-standing ties to the title superhero, otherwise known as T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). Boseman, of course, debuted his take on the character – in teasing form – in last summer’s blockbuster Captain America: Civil War. Ryan Coogler (Creed) is directing the film, which will feature the impressive ensemble cast of Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba as well as Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Lupita Nyong’o.
Brown, currently up for a Golden Globe for his take as Christopher Darden in The People vs. O.J. Simpson, can currently be seen on the breakout NBC hit This Is Us. He last appeared on screen in the Tina Fey comedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and will be featured in the upcoming Thurgood Marshall bio Marshall alongside Boseman (who will play the title role).
Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.
