SXSW has begun rolling out their film lineup for the 2017 festival. Their opening night picture will be Terrence Malick‘s Song to Song (formerly known as Weightless). This will be the movie’s world premiere which is set to take place the night of March 10.
Song to Song stars Michael Fassbender (Assassin’s Creed), Natalie Portman (Jackie), Ryan Gosling (La La Land), and Rooney Mara (Carol) as intertwined couples in the Austin music scene. It will be a film of ambitions, passions and betrayals set against a musical backdrop that will feature appearances by Patti Smith, Lykke Li, the Black Lips, Iggy Pop, Florence and the Machine, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Malick’s last feature, 2015’s Knight of Cups, – which also featured Portman – premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, but fizzled out among critics.

American Gods (World Premiere)

Signature Move (World Premiere)

A secret new romance with Alma forces Zaynab to confront her complicated relationship with her recently widowed mother. In this coming-of-age Muslim melodrama, Zaynab copes by taking up Lucha-style wrestling.

Small Town Crime (World Premiere)

Song To Song (World Premiere)
