Spider-Man: Far From Home, follow-up to Spider-Man: Homecoming, released this past week and has already proven itself to be successful addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In its first 6 days, the film has already earned a solid $185 million across the US and $580 million total globally. These numbers have surpassed estimates which placed the film at about $180 million domestic and $600 global, which it is likely to hit by the end of the weekend.
Now this Spider-Man installment has beat out Spider-Man 2 to have the best July 4 weekend six-day box office of all time. It also marks a successful sequel in a year of underperforming franchise pieces that have failed to live up to expectations. Marvel has seemed to jump past all that though, with consistent big earnings across the board.
As the last film in the MCU’s Phase 3 and the first film to take place after Avengers: Endgame chronologically, it makes the film must-see for Marvel fans. The glowing reviews don’t hurt either, with Rotten Tomatoes scores both in the mid-90s.
With the 4th of July holiday being a big weekend for theaters, other releases also performed well. Toy Story 4 took the slot for 2nd, another successful Disney sequel, and now has made over $300 domestically.
Ari Aster’s Midsommar came in with almost $11, which is the best opening for an indie film from its first 5 days earnings.
