After its release on July 31st, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has beaten Avengers in Domestic box office sales with $858.4 million, making it the highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The only other movie to have a bigger domestic box office gross is another Disney film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which accumulated $936.7 million. Avengers will be seeing a re-release in September leading to the release of Avengers: Doomsday which has the potential to change its position in domestic box office gross. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day still has time to accumulate more for its domestic box office gross before it’s taken out of theaters.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth standalone movie of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man but before the MCU, Spider-Man was portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Tobey Maguire donned the mask in Spider-Man (2002) which grossed domestically $403.7 million and its sequels only grossed in the $300 million range. Garfield’s live-action adaptation of Spider-Man has the lowest of the three at $262.7 million and sequel with $203 million. Both Garfield and Maguire returned for a teamup with Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home which grossed $814 million domestically.
The next big release for the MCU is Avengers: Doomsday which has sold out tickets for its release in December.
