Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially joined the Billion-Dollar Club in only six days. Sony announced on Tuesday that the film had crossed $1 billion globally, reaching a worldwide total of $1.05 billion. To date, the film has made $407 million domestically and $647 million internationally. With this total, the film officially became the second-fastest film to hit $1 billion globally, the fastest being Avengers: Endgame, which hit this milestone in five days.
This milestone comes after Brand New Day smashed box office records in its opening weekend. The film broke the domestic box office opening weekend record, making $360 million, surpassing Avengers: Endgame, which made $357 million in its domestic opening weekend. Brand New Day also became the quickest film to reach $400 million domestically, doing so in only four days, plus early preview screenings. It also had the highest-grossing domestic Monday, making $47 million on Monday, surpassing 2018’s Black Panther, the previous record holder.
These numbers and box office records are especially impressive, considering Brand New Day did not have any IMAX screenings in its opening weekend in domestic territories, with only international territories like China screening the film in the digital IMAX format. While the film had access to most other Premium Large Formats, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey still had exclusive access to IMAX digital and IMAX 70mm screens in domestic territories this past weekend. The Odyssey won’t lose that exclusive access until this Friday, August 7.
However, starting this Friday, August 7, IMAX will screen Spider-Man: Brand New Day in select digital IMAX theaters, splitting access with The Odyssey. The Odyssey will still be keeping exclusive access to IMAX 70mm theaters, as its run has been extended until September 17th due to high demand.
