Worldwide rights to the first female-driven Wall Street drama, Equity, has been snapped up by Sony Pictures Classics. This marks the second acquisition for Sony Classics at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival– they previously snapped up the documentary Eat That Question – Frank Zappa In His Words.
Penned by Amy Fox (Heights) and helmed by Indian-American director Meera Menon in her second feature (Farah Goes Bang), the film stars Emmy winner Anna Gunn (TV’s Breaking Bad and Gracepoint) as an investment banker leading a controversial tech IPO, who finds herself caught up in a financial scandal and a web of corruption. She gets investigated by an aggressive prosecutor from her past, played by Alysia Reiner (No Letting Go). Sarah Megan Thomas (Backwards), Craig Bierko (UnREAL), Nate Corddry (St. Vincent) and James Purefoy (High-Rise) also star. Amy Fox (Heights) wrote the screenplay.
Produced by Reiner and Thomas, the film screens today in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at Sundance.
