Last month, we reported that Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s English-language film Snowpiercer would be recieving an unedited theatrical release stateside. This after disagreement between Bong and distributor Harvey Weinstein over how the film should be presented over here – with a stronger emphasis on action, or on drama – was finally settled. Now, thanks to twitchfilm, we can give you an imprecise yet still better idea of when you can catch the film. Snowpiercer is coming North American theaters this June, although no exact date has been set.
In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off most life on the planet, a class system evolves aboard the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine.
The story is adapted from a French comic book of the same name by Jean-Marc Rochette and Jacques Lob. The cast is a mixture of Korean actors – including Song Kang-ho and Go Ah-sung, who both appeared in Bong’s 2006 film, The Host – and stars more well known over here, like Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, and Ed Harris.
Snowpiercer is being distributed in North America by The Weinstein Company, with the release in June being handled its Raidus label.
