In an interesting, and possibly genius casting decision by Sony, funnyman Seth Rogen (Neighbors) has signed on to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak opposite Christian Bale (The Fighter) in the Untitled Steve Jobs Biopic, confirms Variety. Rogen’s dramatic turn plainly reads as Oscar bait, as it is being developed exclusively by Academy Award winners; adapted by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), produced by Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men), and starring Bale. Booking a comedian such as Rogen, with the proven ability to draw a large young demographic, adds an exciting element to the drama.
Rogen follows in the footsteps of fellow comedy-to-drama convert Jonah Hill (Wolf of Wall Street), who has garnered great successes in his career move with two Oscar nominations. If Rogen is able to churn out a similarly groundbreaking performance, we may be seeing awards in his future, only adding to the acting, directing, and producing empire he has built for himself thus far. Rogen already has countless projects in production, including his upcoming James Franco (Pineapple Express) collaboration The Interview set for this Christmas, as well as the Franco-produced Zeroville, and an Untitled Christmas Eve Project co-starring Lizzy Caplan.
