Schitt’s Creek actress Emily Hampshire has been cast as the lead in the upcoming psychological horror film Home. Hampshire will also serve as one of the executive producers – her first time in that kind of role. The independent film was written by writer/producer Philip Kalin-Hajdu and co-produced by Benoit Beaulieu, while Adam O’Brien of Delirium Pictures will be directing.
The film will follow Hampshire’s character as she goes through the loss of her newborn, the pain of which results in this woman and her partner separating. She starts believing that her son is still alive but little does she know that his death has lead to sinister things happening around the house. Kalin-Hajdu praised Hampshire’s versatility adding, “This part was meant for Emily and what she’s creating has gone beyond any of our expectations.”
Emily Hampshire is well known for her soon-to-be six-season arc as motel owner Stevie Budd in the CBC comedy series Schitt’s Creek. The show was created by and stars Eugene and Dan Levy who, alongside Hampshire, just wrapped filming Schitt’s Creek‘s final season. Hampshire also had a role as Jennifer Goines on Syfy’s 12 Monkeys, which ran from 2015-2018.
Production for Home will begin in Montreal on August 13th. No further casting information has been released at this time.
