Rolling Stone and MRC Non-Fiction Working on Rudy Giuliani Documentary

Even after his infamous appearance in last year’s Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, it seems that Hollywood isn’t quite finished with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. According to report from Deadline, Rolling Stone and MRC Non-Fiction are coming together to create documentary about Giuliani that follows his downward trajectory from his response to the 9/11 attacks, to his role pushing Donald Trump‘s claims about election fraud in the 2020 election.

The film will be based on Seth Hettena’s 2020 Rolling Stone article, What Happened to America’s Mayor? Zach Heinzerlig, who recieved an Oscar nomination for his 2013 documentary, Cutie & The Boxer, and Gabrielle Schonder, a two-time Emmy winner, will direct the documentary.

“Rarely has a public figure in America fallen so far so fast in the public eye,” says Rolling Stone’s director of content development Jason Fine. “As we’ve reported on Rudy’s downfall — his bizarre political maneuvering, shady business dealings, and now, being under criminal investigation by the same U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan that he once ran — we see his story as a parable for the dark forces that have shaped American politics.”

Another doc about Giuliani was also recently announced Campfire Studios and Jed Rothstein, the director of WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn. Rolling Stone’s new film is set to release sometime in 2022 and is being produced and financed by MRC Non-fiction.
