Three days into filming after 5 ½ months on pause, Matt Reeves’ The Batman stops production once again due to Robert Pattinson reportedly testing positive for Covid-19 on set. “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols,” Warner Bros. said in a statement this morning. “Filming is temporarily paused.”
Warner Bros. did not state that Pattinson was the member of production that contracted the virus. Vanity Fair later confirmed through a ‘highly placed source’ that Pattinson was the person who had tested positive for Covid-19.
The Batman originally paused production in March due to the pandemic, with Reeves saying back then that about a quarter of the film had been shot. Reportedly, the film has about three months left of shooting.
At this year’s virtual DC Fandome, Reeves confirmed that his iteration of the beloved character will take place during Bruce Wayne’s second year as the Batman. The film will also showcase villains like the Riddler, the Penguin and Catwoman in their earlier years as well.
On August 22, during the DC event, a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated film released featuring dark visuals, a young batman and a brand new Batmobile. Pattinson stars in the film along with Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell and Jeffrey Wright.
The Batman is planned to release on October 1, 2021.
