Universal has announced that My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 will premiere March 25th, going head-to-head with the superheroes in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice .The sequel to the 2002 smash will again star Nia Vardalos and John Corbett. British director Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee) is attached to direct from Vardalos’ script. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Gary Goetzman have re-teamed to produce under their Playtone banner.
And yes, rumor has it there will be another big fat wedding and family secrets will be revealed.
The release date appears to be an interesting stab at counter-programming against the highly anticipated Batman V Superman, starring Ben Affleck (Gone Girl) and Henry Cavill (the upcoming Man From U.N.C.L.E. reboot). Since box-office for superhero films tends to skew male, it looks like Universal is aiming to give viewers a more feminine option that weekend.
