‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ To Be Release in Theaters And Disney Plus Through Premiere Access

With Warner Bros recently announcing their line up of films to be released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day, many were curious to if Disney would end up doing the same for their streaming service. Well, it seems like they are as their upcoming animated feature Raya and the Last Dragon will be release on both Disney Plus and in Theaters on March 12th 2021.

The announcement was made earlier today during their Disney investor meeting where they made a few more announcements regarding their release schedule for Disney Plus. They also released a new poster for the film that features the inclusion of them releasing onto the streaming service. However, unlike Pixar’s Soul which is going to be on there for free Christmas day, Disney is yet again doing their premiere access for the upcoming animated film like they did with Mulan back in September.

It is very questionable that they are doing the premiere access again for this film, especially when the reception of Mulan doing it was met with negative results. Not to mention the fact they did not utilize the premiere access option for Pixar’s Soul, making the decision for Raya to be a little more confusing for some. However, fans will at least have the option to see the film in theaters as well this time around and depending on if theaters are much safer to go to with the potential of COVID-19 being more controlled hopefully, some fans will definitely consider the theater option for this film more so. We’ll see if anything else changes in regards to that, but it still makes sense for them to at least consider the option of both a theatrical and streaming release for future films, and it’s more likely we’ll see them and other studios going forward with this method later on.

Raya and the Last Dragon is set for release March 12th 2021 on both Disney Plus and Theaters.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
