Disney+ Hits 86.8 Million Subscribers

During Disney’s ‘Investor Day 2020’ live stream, the company announced that their primary streaming service has hit subscriber total of 86.8 million. CEO Bob Chapek announced the number at the beginning of the virtual four-hour investor presentation. The number shows a large amount of growth since October 3, when streamer had about 73.7 million subscribers. This reflects recent launches in Latin American markets, including Brazil.

At ‘Investor Day 2020,’ we also learned that within the next few years, subscribers can expect to see 10 new Marvel series, 10 new Star Wars series, 15 Disney live-action, Disney Animation and Pixar series, and 15 Disney live-action, Disney Animation and Pixar features.

Disney+ saw incredible growth when it first launched November 2019. On its first day, the streamer acquired more than 10 million subscriptions. With an abundance of content at only $7 a month, Disney+ quickly became a main competitor in the streaming space.

Disney+ has garnered a lot of attention with its original series’, especially Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, which is currently concluding its second season.  The streamer also announced that it would be adding more general entertainment and R-rated content to the platform under the new ‘Star’ brand, but parental controls can be utilized to hide 18+ content from younger audiences.
