Rashida Jones in Final Talks to Join New Line Comedy ‘Tag’

Multi-hyphenate talent Rashida Jones appears to be in final talks to join the upcoming comedy Tag, as reported by The Tracking Board. The comedy, set up at New Line Cinema, has already enlisted two-time Oscar nominated actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) along with funny men Ed Helms (The Hangover), Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops) and Hannibal Buress (Daddy’s Home). The comedy is currently in pre-production with a release date targeted for next summer.

Tag, adapted from a Wall Street Journal article written by Russell Adams, follows group of guys – friends since childhood – who have been engulfed in an elaborate, cross-country game of tag for the past thirty years. Annabelle Wallis (next to be seen in Universal’s upcoming reboot of The Mummy) is also slated to join the picture, playing a reporter covering the game. No word yet on what role Jones may play. Jeff Tomsic, making his feature debut, will direct the comedy from a screenplay credited to Mark Steilen and Rob McKittrick.

Jones can currently be seen in the TBS comedy series Angie Tribeca and is best known for her role in the long-running NBC comedy show Parks & Recreation. She is currently filming the romance Zoe for director Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) alongside Ewan McGregor. Her past feature work includes roles in David Fincher’s The Social Network, the hit comedy I Love You, Man and the indie Celeste and Jesse Forever, a film in which she co-wrote.

Tag is due in theaters on June 29, 2018.
