Two-time Oscar nominated actor/director Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel) will be voicing the character of Alfred – Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler – in The Lego Batman Movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Last year’s The LEGO Movie was a major success for Warner Bros., with worldwide box office receipts of nearly $470 million. Thus a franchise born. Chris McKay, animation supervisor and voice artist on The LEGO Movie, will direct The Lego Batman Movie which will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, co-directors and co-screenwriters on The LEGO Movie, are returning to produce, alongside Dan Lin and Roy Lee, who were also producers on the first LEGO animated feature.
Will Arnett, a veteran TV star and voice artist, returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The Caped Crusader’s sidekick, Robin, will be voiced by Michael Cera (This is the End). Rosario Dawson (Top Five) will play Batgirl. Zach Galifianakis (Birdman) is also aboard to voice the Joker.
Fiennes is not new to voicework, having voiced the Oscar-winning The Curse of the Were-Rabbit for DreamWorks a decade ago. He returns as M this week in the latest James Bond flick Spectre. The versatile actor will be seen next year in the Coen Brothers’ comedy musical Hail Ceasar! which bows on February 5th, followed by A Bigger Splash, Luca Guadagnino’s crime jealousy drama with Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, due out on May 13.
